About Little Luminaries
A small speech therapy practice in Murfreesboro with a family feel, where communication grows through play, trust, and connection.
Our approach
Four things guide every session. Tap a card to flip it.
Your child needs to feel safe, supported, and seen. Connection comes before any goal.
Your child’s interests lead, and we join the play. Scroll down to see what that looks like here.
Words, scripts, signs, gestures, sounds, and AAC all count. Our care is strengths-based and neurodiversity-affirming.
Caregivers are welcome in sessions and included in the plan, with ideas you can use all week.
What child-led looks like here
We have a full sensory gym, and sometimes the whole clinic becomes part of therapy.
For one child, it’s painting nails in the clinic kitchen.
For another, it’s building a fort in the sensory room and pretending to go camping.
For another, it’s lining up farm animal toys, side by side.
Whatever it looks like, we meet your child where they are.
The whole child
Before we set a single goal, we get to know your whole child. Tap each light to see what we look at.
What helps your child feel calm and settled enough to connect.
Neurodivergent ways of thinking, learning, and playing are welcomed and respected.
Past experiences, including stress or trauma, can shape how safe communicating feels. Kristin is certified in TBRI (Trust-Based Relational Intervention), a trauma-informed approach.
Relationships and routines at home, at school, and in the community.
With your written consent, we work with OTs, teachers, pediatricians, and counselors, so everyone shares the same understanding.
Speech therapy here is never about drills, pressure, or compliance.

AAC Specialist · Founder
DBH, CCC-SLP
AuDHD herself and raising a child with autism and ADHD, Dr. Taylor knows this path as a parent and as a therapist.
“What is language but just a way to connect with the people we love?”
Trained in
Dr. Taylor Hickok, DBH, CCC-SLP, is an ASHA-certified speech-language pathologist with over a decade of experience supporting children and families. She holds a Doctorate in Behavioral Health with an emphasis in healthcare management from Arizona State University, a Master’s in Communication Disorders (ASU), and a Bachelor’s in Psychology from UC Berkeley. Her unique training bridges the worlds of communication science, child development, and healthcare systems, giving her a broad, real-world understanding of how families access services and what support they actually need.
At Little Luminaries, Dr. Taylor brings a warm, strengths-based, neurodiversity-affirming approach to therapy. That approach isn’t only professional, it’s personal. Taylor is AuDHD herself, and neurodivergence runs through her entire family. She knows what it is to move through the world with a brain that works differently, and to love people whose brains work differently too. That lived experience shapes everything about how she practices: a deep respect for all kinds of brains, and a commitment to meeting children as they are rather than asking them to be someone else. She believes that communication is more than just words. It’s connection, confidence, and identity. Her sessions are play-based, relationship-driven, and completely free of drills or pressure. Instead, she creates a supportive environment where children can grow at their own pace and in their own way.
Dr. Taylor specializes in speech and language development, AAC (augmentative and alternative communication), executive functioning, social skills, and caregiver coaching. She has completed the Meaningful Speech course on gestalt language processing, and her professional development includes DIR/Floortime training toward Basic Certification. She is trained in LAMP Words for Life, TouchChat, Unity, Tobii Dynavox, and Proloquo2Go, and when nothing on the market fits a child, she creates a custom AAC solution. She is now developing her own AAC device, Patchwork AAC, for clients who don’t fit the mold. Her background in psychology and behavioral health systems helps her design therapy that fits real life, not just clinic goals. She understands how speech therapy connects to the bigger picture, like school, home, and daily routines, and helps families navigate it all with confidence.
She’s also a parent herself, raising a bright little firefly of her own who is autistic and has ADHD, so she knows how personal and emotional this journey can be. Her goal is to walk alongside you with compassion, flexibility, and expert care, helping your little luminary shine.
